How do I set my default browser to Google Chrome?
How do I set my default browser as Google Chrome?
(Or another similar browser application?)
Overview
So, you click the link to a document a co-worker sent you, and much to your dismay, you see that horrifying blue-gray interface pop up, telling you about how "newer, faster, and more built for Windows 10" it is.
After ripping out your hair for 10 minutes, you're here to figure out how to change your default browser to something more palatable, like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Brave.
Here's how:
Google Chrome
Step One: Chrome's Website
Open Microsoft Edge, and in the search bar, type www.google.com/chrome.
Step Two: Big Blue Button
On this page, you'll see a blue Download button. Click that button(Note: When you visit the webpage on Mac, it will say Macintosh version numbers below the blue button, not Windows numbers).
Step Three: Get it Downloaded
You should see it appear in your "Downloads" section of your browser.
Click "Open File", "Install Anyway", or any variation thereof, in order to open it.
Step Four: Patience
The installer window will appear. Wait for it to finish.
Step Five: Pin for Easy Access
You'll be greeted with a welcome page for Google Chrome. Pin it to your taskbar by right-clicking the Chrome icon at the bottom of your screen, and then clicking 'Pin to Taskbar'.
The Chrome window that will appear.
Pinning Google Chrome to the taskbar.
Step Six: Default Apps
Press the Windows Key (), and type in "Set default browser".
Click "Choose a default web browser".
Typing "set default" into the Start menu
Step Seven: The Final Change
Ignore Microsoft's pleas to make you keep Edge, and set your default browser to Chrome(or whatever browser you're into).
Clicking Microsoft Edge and changing it to Chrome
That's it! Now you can browse knowing Microsoft isn't peering into your activities.
(We really can't say anything about Google though.....)
Also, look at all the attempts Edge made to stop us!
