How do I know if an email is spam?
How do I know if an email is spam?
Cyber Security is a community responsibility. Technology and artificial intelligence can only do so much to protect the University. We have to be cautious when viewing/responding to emails and take the extra steps to look for indicators of phishing attempts.
- Never forward a phishing email
- Report to Information Technology (NOT THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY)
There are a lot of ways whereby an attacker may try to gain admission. This could come in the form of sending emails that are pushy, overly urgent, or almost aggressive in the way they try to manipulate users into giving sensitive information like phone numbers, passwords, Microsoft Teams and Zoom contact information.

- Always be sure that you double-check exactly what email you're receiving any requests from.
- If you have reason to believe that an email is fraudulent, call them on a phone number that you already have in your contact book.
- Do not call any numbers left in suspicious emails.
- Do not click any links left in suspicious emails.
- Check to see if any strange unfamiliar email addresses are Cc'd on the email.
- Check to make sure the message is not in broken English, or seemingly very unprofessional.
Information Technology can be reached through the support portal if you have any concerns.
